Inspired by natural environment and thematic language between structural geology, metamorphic tectonics and human form, the sculptural artworks explore unique visual language and unconventional materiality between atomic stacking structures as in Honeycomb, a fourteen layered simultaneously woven 3D artwork, physical characteristics of natural rock formations and weaving. The unconventional materiality is hand-woven from diverse fibres of basalt, quartz, stainless steel, copper, carbon fibre, glass, silver/polyester, paper and silk. Creating woven matter artworks from linear threads of materials normally associated with industrial applications can challenge preconceptions, the artworks are unfamiliar, seeking our acquaintance. The first series of artworks were developed during an Australia Council Project Grant and Australian National University Vice Chancellor one year Artist Fellowship. For more detail see About page.
